Description The following interview was done in September 2016, in Hans Belting's apartment in Berlin. It took place only one day after the first workshop of the new project entitled "Iconic Presence. The Life of Images in Religion and Art", funded by the Balzan Prize. The project, directed by Hans Belting himself, is carried out by three institutions: Kolleg-Forschergruppe BildEvidenz, Geschichte und Ästhetik at the Freie Universität, Zentrum für Lite-ratur-und Kulturforschung in Berlin and Center for Early Medieval Studies at the Masaryk University in Brno. This shared enterprise can therefore be seen, like the Hans Belting Library in Brno, as a sort of bridge: between art history and religious studies, between the Czech Republic and Germany. Our discussion, which begun with the newly established Hans Belting Library in Brno, gradually led to the notion of exchanges across different kinds of borders and eventually to the project itself.
