Description The aim of this paper is to introduce one of the possible methodological approaches to the study of political cultural performances. The chosen approach is based on the broad sociological and anthropological conception of theatricality / performativity of public events and derives from the tradition of philosophy of pragmatism and symbolic interactionism. If we consider the cultural performances (such as the majestic parades) as a production of its kind, this theory can help us in analysing them. Therefore, the mass festivals and political demonstrations of 1950s and 1960s from Czechoslovakia are chosen as a key example in this paper to demonstrate how this approach works. Thus, the purpose of this paper is either to show how actors of those cultural performances – who are in interaction - manipulate with symbolic meanings. As well as to show how this process - in which the actors show the meaning of their social situation – actually works.
