Description The present study aims to identify various approaches to the education of career guidance counsellors and highlight the potential of these approaches for the further professionalization of career guidance counselling in the Czech Republic. The study introduces three approaches to the education of career guidance counsellors based on (i) sources on the education of career guidance counsellors in European countries, (ii) the development of professional educational opportunities for career guidance counsellors in the Czech Republic, and (iii) the results of analyses of educational opportunities available to career counsellors in the Czech Republic in 2003, 2010, and 2017. These approaches are a training-based approach, a multi-professional approach, and a competence-based approach, and all are practised alongside one another in the Czech Republic. Nonetheless, the question still remains as to how best to support the strong features and diminish the weak features of each approach to create the most optimal system of education for the very diverse group of Czech career guidance counsellors.
