Description The Order of St. John originated after the occupation of Holy Land of the Crusaders and took over part of the defense of the country and the protection of pilgrims. They helped them in the castles, they built also after the fall of the Outremer in the hands of Muslims in Cyprus, and especially in the acquisition of Rhodes Island and its adjacent islands in its new state. I have been acquainted with the development of their fortified buildings and presented numerous examples of castles serving until the evicting of the Order after the siege of Rhodes by Sultan Suleiman in 1522 when the order of the Aegean left.
