Description The church of Notre-Dame-du-Port, situated in Clermont-Ferrand was constructed during the twelfth century and it is well known in particular for its rich exterior decoration. The decoration of the eastern side is characterised by the combined use of differently coloured stones on the architectural structure, attracting attention on this part. A question arises here: why had this splendid decoration not naturally been applied to the main western or southern entrance of the church where we would expect it? To answer this question, the present text will specifically focus on the placement of Notre-Dame-du-Port within the urbanism of the town.
