Description When introducing Otakar Zich, we usually stress his position between science and art, or more particularly describe him as kind of renaissance personality taking part in mathematics, collecting of folk songs, experimental psychology, music theory, composing chamber and chorus music, opera, theatre (especially opera) critic, aesthetician and last but not least theoretician of theatre. In terms of theatre his Aesthetic of Dramatic Art (1931) is final and synthetic work. In my paper I would like to draw our attention to Zich’s theatre reviews – it could provide us idea, how Zich applied his (early) concepts on theatre (and opera productions especially) long ago he started forming system of Aesthetics of Dramatic Art. Analysing this particular material we could see, how much is his theory of theatre influenced by and connected with actual theatre life of his times.
