Description The paper deals with the role of pronunciation in foreign language teaching history from the perspective of traditional methods, including the grammar-translation method, the direct method, the audio-lingual and audio-visual methods and communicative language teaching. Most of these methods have been taken from German scientific literature, which reflects a transnational view. One Czech method (Hruška) is added to the overview. The final part focuses on introducing the present role of pronunciation (post-method) and from a third language acquisition point of view.
