Description The aim of the conference was to investigate to what extent the journalistic and novel works by Ludwig Winder can be viewed not only in the Prague German or Jewish context, but also in the cultural/areal context of Austria (before 1918) and Czechoslovakia (after 1918). In the research on Winder sofar, these dimensions have been largely neglected. Because of his Moravian-Bohemian origin and place of residence, Winder was alien to many depictions of Austrian literary history, and because of the German language of his works, alien to the Czechoslovak literary history. The papers presented at the conference, however, convincingly show that both the journalistic texts by Winder (before and after 1918) and his novel works open up in an innovative way when read as Austrian or/and Czechoslovak.
