Description A two levels scheme «national language -- dialects of the national language» from different points of view is not suitable. In a perspective of historical evolution of the languages it is better to employ a tree levels scheme: 1st original linguistic continuum; 2nd political fragmentation of the continuum; 3rd regional dialectological subdivision. The whole will be exposed on the bases of Rhaeto-Romance (Romansh, Ladin, Friulian) compared to the Balkanic (Romanian dialects) and Pyrenaic situation (Occitan, Gascon, Catalan).
