Description The ground plan of the market in the Late Middle Age consisted of the town square and several short street along the regional communications. In the early Modern Age were added only small parts of the city plan. From the end of 18th century until the middle of the 19th century, a number of homestead of landless owners rose mostly in southwest and southeast. The first signs of change on the begining of the industrial revolution are the sugar refinery and then the railway station. Until the 2nd World War were built especially family houses towards the railway and the state road from Brno to Mikulov. Other industrial buildings were also added (brickworks, cannery, metal-processing factories). The basis of the town development after the 2nd Wordl War lay in the panel blocks-of-flats construction and new factories were built slightly away from the residential area. The infrastructure of the town was modernized only slowly. After 1989, mainly family houses were built in several new places. New industrial zones and shopping centres were constructed in the perifery of the town. New buildings providing social services also appeared and the new town hall was built. The development of Modřice after 1989 influences the closeness to Brno, positives of the traffic and public transport.
