| Description | The island of Thera lies between Crete and mainland Greece. It didn't always look the way it did today. It was once a round shape island with a volcanic cone called Strongyli, which began to grow millions of year ago. Its activity culminated in the Bronze Age with one of the greatest volcanic explosions ever experienced by human civilization. |
