Description Aristotle's ethical writings include the Nicomachean Ethics, the Eudemian Ethics, and the Magna Moralia. While the first mentioned work has earned its place and stands above the other two as a latter and pivotal work, the Eudemian Ethics often remain in a background as an earlier or merely preparatory work. Eudemian Ethics is valuable not only as a testimony to the development of Aristotle's ideas, but will also be very welcome as an alternative and explanatory interpretation of the Aristotle's doctrine of virtue. In Czech Republic, this work is considered secondary, which is particularly evident in the absence of Czech translations. Currently, only an outdated translation of the Nicomachean Ethics and Magna Moralia is available in Czech. The theme of virtue in connection with Aristotle's ethical ideas is vividly discussed in academic circles in the 21st century. By focusing on ethical issues, however, this writing may be interesting for every person, as it deals with topics such as happiness, virtues, goal of life, freedom and choice. With this first Czech translation of the Eudemian Ethics, we would like to contribute to the possibility to grasp one of the most inspiring systems of Ancient thinking. The translation is primarily aimed at preserving the authenticity of Aristotle's exposition, and to translate this exposition comprehensively into the contemporary Czech language, making it accessible to every reader.
