Description The polemical and discussion article contributes to the current discussion on the topic of mass violence in the Czech Lands at the end of WWII and shortly thereafter. Reviewing the Jiří Paděvěts´ books "Bloody Finals: The Spring of 1945 in the Czech Lands" and "Bloody Summer of 1945: Post-war Violence in the Czech Lands", the author thoroughly analyze both extensive historical textual-and-pictorial guidebooks, which were broadly accepted in public. The author argues, that the books are in many ways reliant on outdated interpretations using some traditional narratives lacking in criticism of sources. Apart from the undeniable assets to the public debate, books also contribute to the preservation of some traditional images and mythologies. Many methodological problems connected with the topic remain unchallenged.
