Citation KUDRNÁČOVÁ, Naděžda. Verbal Meaning Meets Construction Meaning : The English Verb ´Walk´and Its Nearest Czech Equivalents in the Locative Inversion Construction. In Breaking the Boundaries": 11th Conference of British, American and Canadian Studies, 12-14 February 2020, Brno. 2020.
Description The verb ´walk´ used in the locative inversion construction is almost invariably translated by means of the Czech verb ´kráčet, whereas the´Czech verb ´jít´, otherwise the commonest translation counterpart of ´walk´, is used very seldom. The reason for the overwhelming preference for ´kráčet´ lies in the verb´s evaluative meaning potential, underlain by the salience of the verb´s manner component and the verb´s ability to profile the mover´s experiential self.
