Description Paper is dedicated to Vincenc Hlavinka (1862–1934), a civil engineer and geodesist, who studied in Vienna, and to his 23-year academic career in Zagreb. It presents his career as a lecturer, his projects, and his contribution to the development of geodesy and architecture in Croatia. included his scientific activities after return to Czechoslovakia. He worked in Brno as a professor of engineering, the rector, and the dean. Hlavinka participated in development of relations between Czechoslovakia and Croatia, especially in the form of his involvement in the association Czechoslovak-South Slavic League. As a chairman of the association, he organized individual and group tours to Yugoslavia, contributed to the establishment of the South-Slavic Campus in Srbská Street in Brno, and provided support for the Croatian minority in southern Moravia.
