Description Depicting human emotions and moving the viewer have been at the centre of artistic expression since antiquity. When confronted with works of art, one can be moved deeply and experience emotions even without any such explicit authorial intent or depiction of these. The book tells the stories of various paintings, sculptures, buildings, jewels and conceptual works of art that have this effect on the viewers, including not only the target audience but also those who approach the works nowadays as well as the art historians who study them. The authors of the individual papers reflect on the works from the perspective of erudite art historians; however, there are universal human emotions involved. As reminded by Ladislav Kesner to whom this book is dedicated, subjective and emotional experiencing of the works of art is fundamental to the history of arts.
