Description This work analyses the syntactic errors in the texts written by Czech and Slovak university learners of Italian L2 from the initial level to the intermediate-advanced level (C1 of the CEFR). From a textual perspective, connections among syntax, cohesion and internal/external references are highlighted. Syntactic errors involve above all cohesion, thus involving issues of agreement, linguistic and logical connection and of sequences of tenses and modes. Errors that involve punctuation marks and the introduction of a new referent - or its maintenance - are present, too, but they are less numerous. Data analysis suggests a continuous and gradual development of metalinguistic competence of the cohesive and informative elements of the text as well as constant attention to the communicative/pragmatic level of language. This volume can be useful to those who teach - and especially to those who are starting to teach - Italian L2 to Czech and Slovak students, and to those involved in the research about interlanguage of Italian as a foreign language.
