Description The essay analyse the role Charles‘ the Elder of Žerotín, the head of moravian estates, in the Estate’s Rebellion 1618-1620. The following categories are researched: general determinants, political action, political strategy and correspondence network. The interpretation of the role of Moravia and thus also that of Charles the Elder of Žerotín in the uprising traditionally moves between two stereotypes: 1. The betrayal of the Moravians, who for a long time did not want to join the confederation and thus enabled the Habsburgs to consolidate their strengths. 2. The loyalty and bravery of the Moravians in the battle of the White Mountain "below the walls of the Stern-Chateau". Žerotín tried to help his older idea of the independence of Moravia within the group of countries of the Bohemian Crown to break through, but after the victory of the Habsburg side this idea came into conflict with the conception of the structure of the state, which Robert John W. Evans had already called “the Making of the Habsburg Monarchy”.
