Description 100 years after the birth of the composer Jan Novák (1921-84), a pupil of Bohuslav Martinů, we have the opportunity to sketch the basic outlines of the clash of big and small history, i.e. the personal and creative lives of both personalities against the background of the political unrest of the 40s and 50s years of the 20th century. Jan Novák coped with his teacher's role model throughout his life. On the one hand, he admired him and promoted his work, on the other hand, as a composer, he was aware of the impending epigony and tried to go his own way. Both of these positions will be attempted in the lecture by PhDr. Martin Flasar, Ph.D. from the Department of Musicology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.
