Description The chapter focuses on the morphosyntax of the Czech present participle. Its main goal is to identify the fine-grained grammatical ingredients that the participle contains, and investigate how they are realized by morphemes. The main focus is on the fact that the participle seems to be derived by suffixing a special participial morpheme (-c) to the form corresponding to the 3.pl present tense. The goal is to understand why it is exactly the 3.pl form that is shared between the participle and the present tense, what features it expresses in the participle, and how these facts relate to the rest of the present tense forms.
