Description What is the role of materials and materiality in architecture over the centuries? And what is their place in the theoretical thinking of art history historians, historians and architects? The authors try to find answers to these and other related questions in presented monograph Material and Materiality in Architecture within the Brno School of Art History, which is based on the online conference of the same name and a follow-up workshop held on June 3 and 4, 2021. The publication also presents various approaches in the research of this issue and their practical application by several contemporary Czech architects. At the same time, it deepens the knowledge of this topic through theoretical reflection on key concepts such as tectonicity and stereotomy, material truthfulness and material transformation in the art history tradition of the Brno School of Art History from Václav Richter or Zdeněk Kudělka to the present personified in theoretical texts by Professor Jíří Kroupa.
