Citation PERUTKOVÁ, Jana. Barsene: die treue Liebe in einem Pasticcio für die böhmische Königin aus dem Jahr 1743 (Barsene: the faithful love in a pasticcio for the Bohemian Queen from 1743). In Love and Virtue in Musico-Dramatic Works ca. 1660–1800. 2022.
Description The pasticcio opera Barsene, which was performed in 1743 during the stay of the imperial court in Prague on the occasion of Maria Theresa's coronation as Queen of Bohemia, was mentioned in contemporary sources only by one sentence in the diary of the imperial Obersthofmeister Johann Joseph Khevenhüller-Metsch. Even in more recent times, this work has not been adequately studied in musicological terms. This article summarises the current state of research and presents the libretto, of which three surviving copies are known to date. The character and story of the opera are analysed with regard to the affects of love, friendship and hatred. Finally, it is explained which textual model was the starting point for this pasticcio and some of the arias are identified.
