| Description | The article presents letters addressed to the President of the First Czechoslovak Republic (or his office) by the ex-members of the Czechoslovak Legion. These letters, often pleading for the “supreme” intervention or aid, were delegated towards the Office for the Czechoslovak Legion at the Ministry of National Defence, an institution responsible for Legions‘ affairs during the time, and are still found in its archival funds. The paper aims to analyse these letters as an independent genre, as well as to identify their typical characteristics and observe the development of this phenomenon during the First Czechoslovak Republic. Secondly, it will use the letters to illustrate the effort of a specific group to achieve its self-perceived claims facing global events and often even existential threat as an example of an asymmetric status and power dynamics. |
