Description From a largely unknown country on the edge of the civilized world, Britain at the turn of the century became the territory where the Roman Empire was going to expand. During nearly three hundred and fifty years of rule, local Celtic tribes with a different culture and no knowledge of writing became unified city-dwelling, bath-going, Latin-speaking Romans.
