Description The theoretical review article presents the psychological contexts that are associated with undergoing voluntary female sterilization. Prevalence data, an overview of the reasons leading women to undergo the procedure and an overview of the psychological effects of the procedure are presented. Of the psychological effects, close attention is paid to post-sterilization regret, which has long been proven to be the greatest risk of voluntary female sterilization. The most significant predictors of post-sterilization regret and its psychological impact on women's quality of life are also presented.
