| Description | In my talk I first dealt with the question of the reception of the essence of a literary work through sensory perception and pointed out possible parallels in the concepts of Z. Švarcová and Motoori Norinaga. Then, using several examples of paraphrases of Genji monogatari, I tried to demonstrate that different renderings draw on different values contained in Genji monogatari and I identified several reasons why Genji monogatari is still a fruitful source of inspiration today. Foremost among these reasons are: openness to interpretation, high cultural capital, high semantic and semiotic potency, and a rich fictional world. |
