Description The Etruscan Velzna, Roman Volsinii, medieval Urbs Vetus and finally today's Orvieto were in ancient times an important religious center of the Etruscan federation of twelve cities. The location experienced its greatest prosperity in the 6th and 5th centuries BC, i.e. in the so-called archaic period in Etruria. In Orvieto and its surroundings, three systematic investigations have been intensively carried out in recent years, in three different locations: in the Etruscan underground of the city, where the so-called Cavita 254 (la Cavita 254) is being investigated, in the Crocifisso del Tufo necropolis and in the complex of sanctuaries, which is known as Fanum Voltumnae, on the site of Campo della Fiera.
