Description Although the phenomenon of the restoration of the Abbey of St.Foy in Conques is now relatively well researched, some aspects of this problem still await clarification. These include, for example, questions related to the "medieval" appearance of Conques built during a series of construction phases that gradually transformed this monument into one of the icons of "Romanesque" France. In what follows, we will focus on the two main stages of the monastery's transformation in the 19th century. The first, under the leadership of Prosper Mérimée, involved the conservation of the monument, while the second, led by Jean-Camille Formigé, marked its radical restoration. In this second phase, it was not only the building that underwent a major transformation, but also the medieval treasure and the cult of the early medieval saint, Saint Foy of Agen.
