Description The article is one of the most problematic morphological categories for learners of Catalan who do not have this determinant in their L1. This is the case of Czech learners, since they have to learn to use a class of word that does not even exist in their linguistic system. Thus, the aim of this presentation is to describe the main difficulties associated with the use of the article in Catalan by Czech learners within the Degree of Catalan Language and Literature at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. First, a brief review of the linguistic trends that have investigated errors in foreign language learning is presented. Secondly, the classification of the errors detected in a sample of texts written by students of Catalan as part of the courses Praktická katalánština 1 and 2 during the academic years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Thirdly, the potential usefulness of analyzing these errors is discussed for the preparation of specific exercises and the teaching of grammar in Catalan as a foreign language.
