Description The paper deals with one of the most noticeable trends in contemporary Czech literature – the genre of dystopia. Over specific texts from recent times (e.g. Petra Hůlová’s Stručné dějiny Hnutí, Alena Mornštajnová’s Listopád, Bianca Bellová’s Jezero, or Klára Vlasáková’s Praskliny), various variants of dystopia are presented. They are often modified by other methods and means as well as other genre influences (e.g. antiutopia, (post)apocalyptic literature, science fiction, etc.). Most of the texts examined display ambitions to become (engaged) social novels, deliberately crossing borders of literature and encouraging political reading. In addition to presenting the current situation of the Czech dystopian prose, the secondary aim of the paper is a preliminary reflection on the scope of the concept of dystopia as such.
