Description The high rate of new migrants with no or poor literacy skills clearly shows how the convergence of oral and written skills in a second language cannot be taken for granted for all learning profiles. It suggests, rather, the urgency of educational pathways capable not only of filling these gaps, but also of taking due account of the weight they exert on the development of oral skills. Of this complexity, as well as of the urgencies and specificities of the population of learners under discussion here, there is still no trace in what constitutes the fundamental reference point of language teaching in Europe. In the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as is well known, reading-writing skills in a second language progress in parallel with oral skills. It is against this background that the piloting of the new reading-writing test of(University of Palermo) ItaStra started in 2019.
