| Description | The paper will try to map the earlier, derogatory use of the collocation "Left-Hand Path" in the Anglophone milieu as a necessary step towards understanding the historical development of the later esoteric current of the same name. Probes into the texts of Helena P. Blavatsky, Arthur E. Waite, Aleister Crowley, Dion Fortune, and Dennis Wheatly will demonstrate the elaboration of this term as a designation of various spiritually and socially subversive egoistic forces and of its function as a polemical category legitimizing one's own spiritual, societal, and political positions. |
