Description The Second World War and the subsequent advent of socialism dealt a significant blow to the lives of many people. In the 1950s and 1960s, the people of the Czech Republic had to cope not only with the consequences of the war, but also with the change of regime, which forced many to make major life changes. In my paper I will present the stories of three people who moved from the village to the city at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. Specifically, these are people who, in their early adulthood, decided to make a big life move and leave their relatively small villages for the capital city of Prague, where they have remained until the present day. What were their main motives for moving? What social ties did they form in the village? And what are they forming today in the city? How do they evaluate their life decisions many years later? I will try to answer these and other questions based on their accounts provided for my field research conducted in 2020. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
