Description The author of the present article deals with Karel Čapek’s conception of irenicism with the general introduction to the problems of concilliation and harmony of interpersonal relations and the question of war and peace. The intro¬ductory part contains the kernel of Čapek’s creative activity, its reception mentioning his merciless English critic Robert Pynsent. The specific features of Čapek’s vision of irenicism are closely connected with the evolution of his philosophy of literature in the form of prose works and dramas moving from the poetics of uncertainty, search for the nodal points in life, the analysis of threats and disasters on the basis of both experimental technology and biology some of them written together with his brother Josef. The theme of irenicism represents a thematic un¬dercurrent often revealing its darker side leading from the permanent search through relativism to the total noetic scepticism.
