Description This article examines two manuscripts of Trojan history produced in 14th-century Venice – the Historia destructionis Troiae of Madrid, BNE, ms. 17805 and Cologny, BB, cod. Bodmer 78 – within the framework of literary and artistic interest for the Trojan myth in the Venetian area. The critical re-exam of the Madrid Historia aims to describe how both its iconographical and stylistic features participate in the invention of a new myth of the foundation of Venice, defined through the dialogue between Venetian chronicles and ancient history books. Decorated towards the end of the century, the Cologny codex reflects the lively interest in the Trojan matter that, both in Venice and on the mainland, led to the production of new artefacts in the second half of the century: manuscripts and luxury objects in which new visual storytelling appear, focusing on the adventures of single heroes and thus offering the reader new opportunities for identification. Examined within this dense network of literary and figurative experiences, the two manuscripts enable us to highlight the key role played by Trojan myth in Venetian civic and historical discourses
