| Description | The chapter of the book is devoted to the history of the web book and assesses the impact of the new technology of the book on the idea of the perfect book formulated by Jean-Claude Carriere and Umberto Eco. The first part of the chapter focuses on the development of hypertext as a substrate for the web book and the ideas of a new form of book that may emerge from this technology. A description of the historical development of electronic books that stimulate the environment for the development of web books follows. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the development of web books, their functions, and the projects associated with them. |
