Description This paper discusses the historical and architectural development of the unique Old Hospital complex in Topoľčany, which was established in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and gradually developed until the 1940s. It defines the complex, its individual building stages, and presents them in the relevant historical context using archival materials, especially historical maps and cadastral documents, presenting the key figures who had contributed to the hospital’s founding, construction and its maturation. The study also explores the monumental values of the urban and architectural design and layout of the complex and its buildings. Likewise, the territorial and buildingspecific protection and conservation measures for the campus are presented and discussed.
