| Description | This paper examines the critical reception of the first Czech edition of "WE" (1927), in other words, the impressions of professional Czech readers during the years 1926–1928. The Czech critical response to the novel was marked by a contradiction: while there was high regard for the author and his position within the system of source literature, the appreciation of his text within the system of target literature was hesitant. This uncertainty and caution influenced the reviews. Assessments of the Czech reviewers regarding the text’s artistic merits were mixed and contradictory. |
