Description This paper examines the phenomenon of dressing devotional statues, which gained a certain level of popularity in the Baroque period in our region, as evidenced by numerous period devotional prints. The garments on the statue alter its attributes and influence the viewer's perception both spiritually and aesthetically. Today, this expression of Baroque piety is almost forgotten among the faithful, clergy, and scholars, who either completely overlook it or mention it only superficially. The statue of Virgin Mary of Candlemas (or Candelaria) from Bučovice is one of the few such statues still dressed today, and it is possible that it is the only statue in our region with characteristics similar to Spanish processional sculptures. Bučovice’s Candelaria is a copy of a now-lost statue from the Trinitarian Church in Vienna, and there is a possibility that the original sculpture was inspired by a Spanish processional statue, was a copy of one, or even an import.
