Description It is commonly believed in the Mongolian studies that oral historical knowledge was more important than written historical knowledge in the historical memory of nomadic peoples. The current state, structure, meaning, and vitality of oral historical memory in rural Mongolian society have been studied by the speaker in the Bulgan River Basin of Western Mongolia, specifically in the case of the Altai Uriankhai people of Bulgan soum, Bayan-Olgii aimag, from 2010 to 2024. A curent project implemented by Masaryk University, Czech Republic, investigates the non-professional oral cultural heritage, oral historical memory, and its transformation. This lecture informs about the current state of research focusing on the issue of oral genealogies of ruling and ordinary pastoral families and their role in the transmission of oral tradition.
