Description The authors present the discovery of a fragment of a millstone from a historical ore mill on the Vrchlice River. It is the first known artefact of its kind in the Kutná Hora Ore District. The discovered fragment with dimensions of 32 × 50 × 36 cm represents approximately one quarter of a millstone with a preserved radius of 32 cm. The material is macroscopically determined as a weakly migmatized leucocratic gneiss. The artefact is compared with known millstones from other ore processing sites of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The nature of the find, the source area of the grinding stone material, and the general absence of millstones from other ore mills in the Kutná Hora region are discussed.
