Description The architecturally remarkable parish church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was built in Husovice (annexed to Brno in 1919) between 1906 and 1910, based on a design by Karel Hugo Kepka. This architect and professor at the University of Technology in Brno also oversaw the sculptural and painterly decorations of the church. All glasswork, including the stained-glass windows, was supplied by the company of Benedikt Škarda in Brno, likely based on their own designs created in collaboration with Kepka. However, for the figural elements of the central trio of stained glass in the presbytery—busts of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph—designs were produced by the painter Ferdinand Herčík, also a professor at the Brno University of Technology. In 1949, without being necessitated by damage, the original stained glass in the nave and presbytery was removed and replaced with new ones by painter František Fišer and glassmaker Josef Jiřička Sr. The article investigates the reasons behind this replacement, particularly in relation to the changing lighting direction of the church interior in the first half of the 20th century. Both the original windows, including those removed and later stored, and the replacements are analysed in detail in terms of technology, artistic form, and especially iconography. The stained glass of the Husovice church has so far been only a marginal topic, as even some basic information was unknown until recently. In the past few years, however, new opportunities have emerged for insights and interpretations.
