Description | An interesting performative adjuration formula, consisting of the verbs adiuro and coniuro, has been attested in approximately 52 Latin inscriptions from antiquity to the Middle Ages. This formula has been documented almost exclusively on three types of inscriptions: on Latin curse tablets (13), amulets (14), and funerary inscriptions (22). However, three Latin texts from the Iberian Peninsula constitute exceptions to this rule. These consist of a notarial document, a sacral inscription, and a dedicatory text. |
