Description | Loanwords represent a significant part of the vocabulary of the Czech language. Among the languages from which Czech has adopted new words, Russian is of course not lacking. The motivation for the enrichment of our language has varied over the centuries - from random adoptions of Russian realia, through targeted linguistic contacts of Czech revivalists, to mass politically motivated adoptions during the communist regime. The paper is devoted to the analysis of the changes in the frequency of selected Sovietisms (loanwords from the post-1948 period) and the way they are used in contemporary Czech. The analysis is based on the author's own research on Russianisms and is based on data from the Czech National Corpus. |
