Description | In my lecture, I focused on the figure of Charikleia Šťastná, born Karmitsi (1869–1921), a Greek woman who settled in Prague at the beginning of the 20th century. Together with her husband, the classical philology professor Jaroslav Šťastný, Charikleia Šťastná was among the pioneers of Czech-Greek cultural relations. She played a significant role in promoting the Modern Greek language and culture within Czech society and, conversely, in introducing Czech literature to a Greek audience. |
