Description The conference contribution presents partial results of our doctoral research project "Paths of Psychosocial Maturation in Contemporary Czech Literature for Children and Young Adults." It examines selected works that have won the prestigious Czech literary award for children's and youth literature, Zlatá stuha (Golden Ribbon), in the literary category since 2000. It studies heroes in various stages of development and at the thresholds between these stages, from early childhood to adolescence. The work examines the developmental crises and challenges the adolescents experience at the thresholds of these stages and how they face them, how new qualities and skills develop, how they build their identity and interpersonal relationships from the microsphere of the family, school, and peer group to an ever-expanding circle of people, It also deals with the artistic means by which these changes are captured. The work aims to explore the psychological characteristics and personality growth of the protagonists in various stages of psychosocial development; to describe developmental milestones and transitional crises and compare them with generally known developmental theories: theories of cognitive development, moral consciousness, and, above all, to analyze findings from the perspective of life cycle theory, emphasizing the lifelong nature of psychosocial development based on Erik Erikson's model. The aim is to analyze the themes, motifs, and artistic means of literature for children and young adults, which naturally communicate psychological and social conflicts to readers, thus leading them to empathetic knowledge.
