Description The article deals with the issue of territorial changes in Slovakia in 1938 and their impact on the population and economy, not only in the occupied territory, but also in fragmented Slovakia. Given the vastness of the issue, we will limit ourselves exclusively to the basic characteristics and specific key moments and phenomena that were later reflected in the population development (characteristics) and economic direction of Slovakia during the Second World War and in the first post-war years. In this context, the loss of territories with a predominantly Hungarian minority and the resulting changes reflected in nationwide indicators were particularly significant for the population impacts. As regards the economy, we focus exclusively on losses in four key areas essential for state functioning: selected types of soil and agriculture, industry, transport infrastructure, energy – the coal base and the power generation sector.
