Description This presentation focuses on the Occultural interplay between the psychedelic subculture and the field of Esotericism, and how this constitutes a lifestyle often imbued with New Age philosophies. Role-play games become metaphors or cognitive categories in which to organize one’s skills or one’s sense of achievement. Psychedelic medicine is used to explore the self and obtain a glimpse of magical essentialism, both contributing to the relief of psychological wounds and the construction of a new and stronger self. The individuals who contributed to the spiritualization of chemistry during the counterculture have now attained guru and guide status, contributing to the development of a unique spiritual and psychedelic aesthetic. We will also explore the more controversial aspects of this lifestyle, such as corporativism, activism, and research, which can be found to be both allied and at odds with each other, and are at the core of what will be the future of psychedelics.
