Description The exhibition is dedicated to the reconstruction of Přibyslav Castle, which took place between 1987 and 1990, when the largest structural alterations were made. The idea of establishing a nationwide fire protection museum was first raised at the congress of the Czechoslovak Fire Protection Association in Ostrava at the end of 1972. Its main initiator and implementer was the then chairman of the association, JUDr. Miroslav Řepiský. Of the several buildings considered, the Přibyslav Castle was ultimately chosen due to its location and good accessibility. The castle in Světlá nad Sázavou and the castle in Ledeč nad Sázavou were also considered. Negotiations on its sale took place from 1973 onwards. Part of the takeover was to secure replacement housing for the then inhabitants of the castle – 24 families lived there. In 1975, the castle was taken over by the Federal Committee of the Fire Protection Association of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (SPO ČSSR) with the aim of building a permanent fire protection exhibition here after the necessary construction modifications. It was opened in the same year on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of voluntary fire protection in Přibyslav. The exhibition was closed in 1979 when extensive reconstruction of the castle began. Both volunteer and professional firefighters from across the country contributed significantly to the repairs, working more than 20,000 hours. The reconstruction work cost almost CZK 80 million. Originally, the repairs were expected to take five years, but due to the very poor technical condition (damaged perimeter walls, vaults, and roof structure), the reconstruction took place gradually between 1978 and 1990. The new permanent fire protection exhibition, intended for firefighters from all over the country, was officially opened on June 10, 1983. Today, the Přibyslav Castle is owned by the Association of Firefighters of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia.
