| Description | The presentation deals with the analysis of the multimedia work Tramvestie (2016) by the contemporary Czech poet Pavel Novotný, which exists in artistic discourse as a text cycle, a radiophonic composition or an opera. Tramvestie, a complex intermedial artifact, stages the tram route No. 11 between Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou as a myth, a phenomenon and an experiment with language, space and subjectivity. The text of Tramvestie responds to space, but space also organizes its structure, is determined by the names of stops, the variability of speakers or the dynamic movement of the tram. The result is a linguistic polyphony that is not a mere recording of speech, but a stylized orality and a rhythmic montage of utterances. The presentation will focus, among others, on the following aspects: fragmentary subjectivity, the tram space as a moving scenic platform and the acoustic landscape of the city. I will also apply concepts of intermedia theory to the work and consider connections with site-specific art, where space serves as a meaning-making element. I will also place Tramvestiia in the context of the author's work and the broader framework of contemporary Czech poetry. |
